This page describes how we decide what to cover, how we verify it, and what happens when we get it wrong.

First, the scale: this site currently has one editor. We do not make promises we cannot keep, so what follows is only what one person must still do — there is no editorial board and no separate rule for every category of case. As the team grows, this page grows with it.

1. Verification

• Every report goes back to at least one checkable primary source: an official announcement, the person involved, the original data, or a verifiable record.
• When we relay someone else’s reporting we say whose it is and link to it. Single-source stories say in the text that they are single-source.
• Figures state who compiled them and as of when.
• Uncertain things are written as uncertain. We do not use vague phrasing to dress up a guess as a fact.

2. Corrections and clarifications

We will get things wrong. When we do:

1. Factual error: we fix the text and note at the foot of the article what was corrected and when. **We do not quietly edit it away.**
2. Typos, broken links, formatting: fixed without a note.
3. Misleading headline over accurate copy: the headline is changed and the change noted at the foot.
4. A story that does not stand up: we do not delete it. It is marked “retracted” with the reason, so anyone who read or cited it can see.

To report an error, write to the tips and corrections address with a link and what you think is wrong. That mail gets answered first.

3. Advertising, sponsorship and disclosure

• Any content behind which there is money, goods or other consideration is labelled as a partnership in the headline or at the top of the article.
• A partner may decide what we discuss. A partner may not decide our conclusions.
• When a brand sponsors a giveaway prize, we name the sponsor.
• Stories involving this site or our partners disclose that relationship in the text.

4. Privacy and vulnerable people

Guided by Taiwan’s Personal Data Protection Act, Sexual Assault Crime Prevention Act, Protection of Children and Youths Welfare and Rights Act and Juvenile Justice Act, and applied at our scale:

• We do not disclose the name or identifying details of victims of sexual assault, sexual harassment or domestic violence.
• We do not disclose the name, school or identifying details of minors involved in a story.
• A private person’s privacy is not open merely because a story is interesting. We report it only where a genuine public interest exists, and only as far as necessary.
• We do not publish gore, images of bodies, or material likely to re-traumatise.
• Reporting on suicide omits method and location and carries help-line information.

5. What we do not do

• No gambling referrals. When we cover odds, live scores or the sports lottery it is information; we will not and may not steer you to place or buy a bet.
• No sensational or inaccurate headlines for clicks.
• No unverified tip-offs presented as reporting.
• No AI-generated content or fake engagement (see the AI Guidelines).

6. Readers’ content

Posts and comments in the discussion boards are readers’ own views and do not represent this site. Content that breaks the Terms is hidden or removed, with suspension where warranted. Report it to the contact address.
